Ghoulish Halloween Goodies

Halloween is such a fun time, everyone gets to dress up in their favorite outfit and pretend to be someone else. The parties take on their own special life and there’s lots of laughing and joking, I think we should have them more than once per year! A Halloween party isn’t complete without themed foods, and they need not be difficult to make. Here I offer three and I will post a few more soon!

Ingredients
For the veggie plate
  • baby carrots
  • celery, cut
  • 2 small cups of Ranch dip, or any other favorite dip
For the sausage mummies
  • 24 Mini cocktail sausages (available at Costco)
  • 1 can Pillsbury crescent dough (available at Costco)
  • Kirkland whole black pepper
For the cheese bats
  • 1 cup goat cheese (Costco has goat cheese logs at a very good price)
  • 1 cup soft cream cheese
  • green olives with pimento, sliced in half across the mid section
  • fresh ground Kirkland Tellicherry pepper
  • Multi-colored soft tortilla wraps

Instructions
For the veggie plate
  1. Simply arrange the veggies on a round plate in a pattern so as to make a jack-o-lantern.
For the sausage mummies
  1. Pre-heat oven to 375F.
  2. Unroll the dough and cut each pre-cut triangle in three thin triangles.
  3. For each triangle place a mini sausage at the bottom and wrap the dough around the sausage.
  4. When you are a little more than ½ cm from the top, leave a “face” and wrap the remaining around the “head” of the mummie.
  5. Place 1 whole pepper corn in for each eye.
  6. Bake at 375F for approximately 12-15 minutes or until golden.
For the cheese bats
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350F.
  2. With a sharp knife cut several bat shaped wings out of the wraps.
  3. Brush each with canola oil and then place in your oven and bake until crisp and golden.
  4. Once done remove from the oven and allow to cool.
  5. In a bowl mix together the two cheeses and place in the fridge to chill for 1 hour.
  6. Take approximately 1 heapting tablespoon of cheese mix and form into a ball about the size of a walnut.
  7. On a plate grind lots of fresh ground pepper. Roll each cheese ball through the pepper to fully coat.
  8. Arrange the cheese balls on a plate (well spaced apart) and then insert a chip wing into each side.
  9. Place 2 sliced olives on each ball for the eyes.
