Chocolate Chili Tart

Chocolate Chili Tart

In Calgary the weather is not exactly tropical for a good chunk of the year. So it’s always nice to have a little something spicy or sweet to put a smile on our face. Or double your pleasure and have both together! Recently I sampled some of Papa Chocolat’s dark chocolate with chili. It was delicious, a nice rich chocolate flavor and then surprise! That chocolate gave me the idea for this recipe and the inspiration for the tart filling comes from the Polish blog przepisy-aleksandry.

Instructions
For the crust
  1. Pre-heat oven to 380F.
  2. In a bowl mix the flours, cocoa powder, baking powder and butter together.
  3. Add the ½ egg, the vanilla, maple syrup and water. Mix until you get a pie crust dough, adding more water if necessary.
  4. Cover the dough ball with plastic wrap and place it into the fridge for 30 min.
  5. When the dough is ready, spread it into a tart pan. To make it easier you can use a cheese shredder to shred the tart ball and then press with your fingers to create the bottom and edges.
  6. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes and once done remove from the oven and allow it to cool. Meanwhile make the tart filling.
For the filling
  1. In a small deep pot over medium heat, warm the cream and then add the chocolate chips and vanilla.
  2. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted.
  3. Remove from the heat and add the eggs. Stir very fast so as to ensure the eggs will not set.
  4. Pour the filling onto the pie crust and then bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the filling is set. (It won’t wobble when slightly shook.)
  5. Remove from the oven and let it cool.
For the topping
  1. In a pot mix together the chocolate chips, cream and vanilla. Place the pot on the top of the stove, heat over medium and stir until the chocolate is melted, creating a smooth chocolate.
  2. Pour the sauce on the top of the tart filling.
  3. Let it cool in the fridge for a few hours.
  4. Prior to serving, allow it to warm at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  5. Optionally serve topped with whipped cream or fresh fruit.
