A review of Khombu Ladies Nordic (Arctic) Boot

Khombu Womens Nordic (Arctic) Boots from Costco

For as long as I can remember, and certainly since my first few winter seasons in Canada, I’ve been looking for THE pair of perfect winter boots.  By perfect I mean: nice looking, waterproof, good priced and really, really, really warm. Let me tell you, it’s not easy to find boots which will meet all those criteria.  Lots of them are only water resistant (not good for slushy snow), or they are not so fashionable, or they are sky high expensive, or worst of all they don’t keep my feet warm. I have Raynauds which causes my extremities to not get enough blood flow and as a result, my feet and hands get extremely cold.  Even though half of Calgary’s season seems to be winter, I don’t want to spend tons of money for winter boots.  High heels, well now that’s a different story for another post! :-)
I’ve had no luck for the last few years finding good boots and my husband suggested I look for some like his, Khombu.  You can only imagine how happy I was when I found Costco carrying Khombu Ladies Nordic (Arctic) winter boots! Great looking, waterproof, and advertised to keep warm up to -40 Celsius. The cost? Only $46.99! ($39.99 in the US) Yay I nailed it!!!   Finally I had the perfect winter boots! Last week I had a chance to test them on a sunny but cold -18C day. I was wrapped up warmly with my new boots on my feet and I went for a walk with my dog Maya. The boots were keeping my feet warm and I didn’t have issues with slipping on the packed snow or ice. So far so good I thought. The problem started when I went into deep fluffy snow. Maya didn’t mind running in it, but for me it wasn’t so pleasant. After about 10 minutes my feet started feeling cold. :(
By the time when we got home my feet were cold like ice. Unfortunately Khombu boots just didn’t pass the exam for me.  However, with the Raynauds I’m a bit of a unique case.  I still think they are great boots, just not for the people with always cold feet like me. After all is said and done I’ll give them 4 out of 5 stars.  If you have any recommendations on boots that meet my criteria, please leave a comment!
P.S.  As I mentioned, my husband has 2 pairs of the men’s Khombu boots and he loves them. He’s said his feet have never gotten cold, not even when out for hours in the -35C that we sometimes get.
